Vor einer Woche kam mein Dari-Lehrer mit einem weißen Umschlag ins Wohnzimmer. “Ich hoffe, ihr kommt zu meiner Party”, sagte er. “Was gibt’s denn zu feiern?” “Ich heirate!”
Heute also: meine erste afghanische Hochzeit. Männer und Frauen feiern in einem Saal und trotzdem getrennt – in der Mitte sind Pappwände aufgestellt. Frauen und Männer tanzen zur gleichen Musik und trotzdem auf zwei verschiedenen Festen. Der Foto-Abgleich danach zeigt, die Männer tanzen ziemlich anzüglich miteinander, die Frauen eher elegant. Spaß haben beide. Nach einer Weile kommen der Bräutigam und sein Bruder auf die andere Seite der Pappwand. Die Männer tanzen mit den Schwestern der Familie. Bräutigam und Braut sitzen auf einem Thron und beobachten das Ganze. Danach verschwinden sie in ein anderes Zimmer. Sie essen gemeinsam, machen Fotos, lassen sich gratulieren und ziehen sich um für die restliche Party: Statt traditionellen Gewändern gibt es nun Anzug und ein weißes Kleid.
Als wir um elf Uhr ein Taxi bestellen, ist die Schwester des Bräutigams entsetzt: “Es ist noch viel zu früh!” Der Bräutigam fragt: “Hat’s dir gefallen? War das Essen gut?” “Gut schon”, sage ich, “aber ein bisschen wenig”. Der Bräutigam fängt an zu lachen. Zu wenig Essen auf einer afghanischen Hochzeit – das kann nur ein Witz sein.
